  • The project
The extension of Stardust Drive in Hannibal from Head Lane to Veterans Road. The road’s surface will be made of concrete.
    What’s
    happening
“I talked to the foreman out on the project yesterday (Monday) and he indicated they might be done as soon as Friday, so I am tentatively scheduling a ribbon cutting Monday at 10 a.m. to be held up near the RCS Bank, the Veterans Road part of the project,” said City Engineer Mark Rees. “That’s amazing considering some of the obstacles we overcame this summer.”
    What’s next
“There’s still some drainage work to get done,” said Rees. “The Street Department does have to do some signing and striping. All that can come together this week.”

    Anticipated cost
Bleigh Construction is the project’s contractor. It was awarded the job after submitting a bid of $979,432. The city budgeted $1.2 million for the work.
Three change orders have been approved by the City Council thus far. In June, $3,800 was added for the removal of trees and creek channel realignment. In August, another $13,480 was OK’d for the relocation of a Ralls County water district pipeline. On Oct. 2, the City Council approved spending an additional $3,294 related to the water line relocation and to pay for undergrading that was needed to stabilize the bedding.
The cost of the project now amounts to just over $1 million.
    Who’s paying
The Stardust extension project was one of six major projects identified by the city to undertake with bond money.
The issuance of $5 million in revenue bonds was approved by voters in April 2008.
    Projected date for completion
The contractor, Bleigh Construction, has until the middle of December to complete the work.
