Irene L. Kinworthy, age 99, of Palmyra, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra. Irene was born October 7, 1913, on Minnesota Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri to John and Lucretia Garfield Johnson Kinworthy.
Survivors include:brother, Bill Kinworthy of Greenville, Tennessee; local relatives include: nephews, David Hevel, Dr. Robert Hevel; great nephew, Josh Hevel; nieces, Irene Meyers and Brenda Hayes of St. Louis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, George, and Oliver Kinworthy; sisters, Ethel Foerstel and Marguerite Hevel.
Irene spent most of her life as a labor leader for the International Shoe Company and Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis, Missouri. At age 57, she attended and graduated from the Hannibal VoTech Center with her LPN degree. Her nursing career included her employment with St. Elizabeth Hospital and Bartlett Memorial Hospital in Juneau, Alaska.
She was a lifetime member of the Hannibal Regional Auxiliary. Also, she spent many years running the Hannibal Regional Hospital gift shop on the weekend as a faithful volunteer. Irene had a strong personal belief about her God.
A private family burial service will be held at the Liberty Cemetery in Steelville, Missouri. Arrangements entrusted to the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, Missouri.
