Gene Guy, 82 of Center, MO, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the Westview Nursing Home in Center, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO. Father Mike Quinn will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Guy was born on April 2, 1930, in Hannibal, MO to Sperry P. and Juanita Gatewood Guy.
He was previously married to Vivian R. Latta Guy. She preceded him in death March 11, 1998. He later married Alice Jean Calhoun Lewellen Guy on May 5, 2000. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Debbie D. Harris of Hannibal, MO; 7 step sons, O.C. Latta (Roxy) of Hannibal, MO, John Latta (Jan) of Hannibal, MO, J.R. Latta of Hannibal, MO, Joe Huse (Rita) of Atlanta, GA, Kevin Huse (Kathy) of Center, MO, Alan Huse of Center, MO, and Steve Huse (Kelly) of Center, MO; one step daughter, Gayla Lewellen Barton (Jeff) of Hannibal, MO; grandchildren, Jason Harris, Jonna Latta, Trey Latta, Mandy St. Leger; also surviving are numerous step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and two special nephews, Alan Rush and Marcum Rush.
Mr. Guy was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Homer Tullett, a sister, Donna Rush, a brother in law, Jim Rush, a step-son, Rick Huse, a niece, Diane Rush, and grandchild, Lance Latta.
Mr. Guy graduated from Hannibal High School where he performed as a standout athlete in football and track. After graduation Mr. Guy was awarded an athletic scholarship to attend Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO. Following his collegiate career Mr. Guy played semi-professional baseball for the Braves farm system.
Mr. Guy was the former owner of the Sperry P. Guy Roofing and Siding Company. In 1972 he accepted the position as Building Inspector for the City of Hannibal. He retired as Building Inspector after 20 years of service. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Missouri Wild Turkey Federation. Mr. Guy was a Mason for over 50 years. He attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, MO.
Pallbearers will be Trey Latta, Nick St. Leger, Kevin Huse, Jason Harris, Danny Hatton, and Roy Hark.
Honorary pallbearer will be Bob Guy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Wild Turkey Federation in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
