Phyllis J. Whiston, 83, of Palmyra, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra. She had been a resident of the nursing home for approximately three years.
Phyllis was born July 27, 1929, in Barry, Ill. She was raised by Joseph (Buck) and Katherine White of Palmyra.
After graduation in 1947 from Palmyra High School she married Philip S. Whiston April 15, 1950, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death May 22, 2009.
To this union were born three children, Cecelia (Terry) Sehlke of Keytesville, Mo., Philip Stephen Whiston of Hannibal and Rita (Frank) Dorsey of Palmyra. She was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Katie White; and her husband.
Besides her children she is survived by five grandsons, Bryon (Cathy) Dorsey of Palmyra; Todd (Rebecca) Dorsey of Palmyra; Michael Sehlke of Keytesville; Darin Sehlke of Montgomery City, Mo.; and Daniel Stephen Whiston of Hannibal; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Ethan Dorsey of Palmyra; Adyson and Brylea Dorsey of Palmyra; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Whiston was a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a past member of the St. Joseph Altar Society. Besides being a housewife and mother, she worked as a cook at St. Joseph Elementary school, a sales representative for Mary Kay Cosmetics, a cashier/clerk for Pamida, and was a former manager of the C&R Grocery Store in Monroe City, Mo.
Phyllis enjoyed playing cards with the M & M girls card club in Monroe City, Mo.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra. Father Alex Ekka, Father Michael Quinn and Deacon Robert Leake will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Loving Care Hospice and/or Alzheimer’s Association.
Pallbearers will be Bryon Dorsey, Todd Dorsey, Michael Sehlke, Darin Sehlke, Evan Dorsey and Tom Whiston.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adyson Dorsey, Brylea Dorsey, Ethan Dorsey and Daniel Whiston.
