    83, of Monroe City
    Betty Loucille Barnes, 83, of Monroe City, Missouri, passed away 8:30 p.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City, Missouri.
    She was born June 29, 1929, in Waukenee, Kansas, the daughter of Oscar and Charlotte Barnes. Betty was a member of the Monroe City First Baptist Church, Monroe City, Missouri. She graduated from Maxville High School, Maxville, Kansas. She worked for many years as a bookeeper for her Tri-B Industries in Monroe City. She served as the Mayor of Monroe City first term from September 1979, until May 1980, then again from April 2000 until April 2004. She was appointed then by Govenor Kit Bond to serve as Monroe County Collector, Monroe County, Missouri.
    She loved all aspects of her political life, most of all visiting and serving her community. Betty enjoyed her retirement spending time with all of her friends at the Monroe City Nutrition Center were she served as past board member. She married Robert Eugene Barnes September 7, 1947, in Salina, Kansas. He passed away January 20, 1998.
    She is survived by 2 sons, Dennis W. Barnes and wife Carol, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Robert Barnes, Monroe City, Missouri; 3 brothers, Eugene Barnes (Sue), Lee Sumitt, Missouri, Dean Barnes (Elaine), State of Texas, and Howard Barnes (Ginger) Boston, Massachusets; 2 sisters, Velma Bryson, Eldoredo, Kansas, and Shirley Welch (Larry), Lawrence, Kansas. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a infant son, Michael Barnes.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at the Garner Funeral Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri. Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate. Burial from the St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until time of services at the Funeral Home. Memorials have been suggested to the Monroe City First Baptist Church. Garner Funeral Home and Chapel, Monroe City, Missouri is in charge of arrangements.
