Jillian Collins of Hannibal has received the Pettit-Hardin Scholarship from the College of Education at the University of Missouri.
The Pettit-Hardin Scholarship was established by Neila Pettit and Veralee Hardin in memory of Pettit’s daughter, Jackie, who died from cancer in 1982. Recipients must be graduate students in education who have made commitments to work with children experiencing academic difficulties. Collins has worked for three years with children and adults who experience developmental disabilities.
Collins is a senior studying secondary language arts education at MU. Collins is a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and is an active volunteer in the Columbia community. She currently volunteers at the Columbia Food Bank and the Columbia Public Library. She also works for ACT services, a private agency that provides assistance to the disabled, and at the Neighborhoods by TigerPlace, a rehabilitation and skilled nursing residence for seniors. Collins is the daughter of Mark and Kimberly Collins and graduated from Hannibal Senior High School in 2009.
