  • The project
The extension of Stardust Drive in Hannibal from Head Lane to Veterans Road. The road’s surface will be made of concrete.
    What’s
    happening
“Last week they pulled out the ‘main line’ on that east half, so that’s starting to look like a street,” said City Engineer Mark Rees. “They’re making good progress.”
    What’s next
“I’m sure, weather permitting this week, they can start finishing up the intersections,” said Rees. “There’s still half the Clover (Road) instersection to be rebuilt yet. And then of course all the grading and restoration work can go on whenever weather permits.”

    Anticipated cost
Bleigh Construction is the project’s contractor. It was awarded the job after submitting a bid of $979,432. The city budgeted $1.2 million for the work.
Three change orders have been approved by the City Council thus far. In June, $3,800 was added for the removal of trees and creek channel realignment. In August, another $13,480 was OK’d for the relocation of a Ralls County water district pipeline. On Oct. 2, the City Council approved spending an additional $3,294 related to the water line relocation and to pay for undergrading that was needed to stabilize the bedding.
The cost of the project now amounts to just over $1 million.
    Who’s paying
The Stardust extension project was one of six major projects identified by the city to undertake with bond money.
The issuance of $5 million in revenue bonds was approved by voters in April 2008.
    Projected date for completion
The contractor, Bleigh Construction, has until the middle of December to complete the work.
“I would still guess they’rer another month off on that,” said Rees, when asked about completing the project. “Toward the end of a project there’s a lot of little things to do. The big ones are done now. It’s getting close.”
