Charles J. Marks was born December 7, 1932 in Novinger, Missouri.
He went to be with his Lord after a brief illness, with his family by his side on October 31, 2012, in Roanoke, Virginia.
He and his precious bride, Doris Ann Huffman Marks, were married for nearly 58 years. They raised two daughters, Kathy Ann Marks of Hopkinsville, KY and Linda Marks Cress (Mark) of Henderson, NC, three grandchildren, Ashley Velazquez (Salomon), Avery Thomas (Wes), and Ricky Quattlebaum and two great-grandchildren, Parker Thomas & Lexie Velazquez.
He was raised in Hannibal, Missouri. He began his career with the Wabash Railroad in MO and IL with a two year interruption for service to his country in the US Army where he served in Korea.
With the merger of the Wabash and the Norfolk & Western Railroads in 1971, he accepted a position in Roanoke as a dispatcher. After 35 years of service, including a brief time in Atlanta, GA, he retired from the Norfolk Southern in 1987.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Ruth Galyen Marks.
Additionally he is survived by a sister, Jacquelin Kelley of Hannibal, MO and a brother, Dr. Jerry L. Marks of Defiance, MO.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 55 of Hannibal, MO and Masonic Harmony Lodge No. 3. Jacksonville, IL as well as OES.
He was a long term, faithful member of Belmont Christian Church where he served in numerous leadership positions.
A remembrance service to celebrate his life was held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Belmont Christian Church, 1101 Jamison Ave, Roanoke, VA with the Rev. Craig Rutherford officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions and condolence cards be made to the church.
