  • The project
The extension of Stardust Drive in Hannibal from Head Lane to Veterans Road. The road’s surface will be made of concrete.
    What’s
    happening
A small concrete poured was planned Tuesday, but showers apparently has rained out the work.
According to City Engineer Mark Rees, it’s evident that progress has taken place in the past week.
“I saw the curbing in on the east half (from Clover Road to Head Lane), that was interesting. And there’s been a little bit of intersection work down by Clover, so we’re still progressing,” he said.
    What’s next
“I think the big thing would be the concrete on the main line of that east half,” said Rees. “It might be happening tomorrow (Wednesday), weather dependent. That’s sooner than I would have expected. That is good news because to have that done gets us out of danger as far as being caught by winter.
“You can tell Bleigh has been very aggressive. They’ve put a lot of men, material and machinery on this, and have made real good progress as Mother Nature allowed.”

    Anticipated cost
Bleigh Construction is the project’s contractor. It was awarded the job after submitting a bid of $979,432. The city budgeted $1.2 million for the work.
Three change orders have been approved by the City Council thus far. In June, $3,800 was added for the removal of trees and creek channel realignment. In August, another $13,480 was OK’d for the relocation of a Ralls County water district pipeline. On Oct. 2, the City Council approved spending an additional $3,294 related to the water line relocation and to pay for undergrading that was needed to stabilize the bedding.
The cost of the project now amounts to just over $1 million.
    Who’s paying
The Stardust extension project was one of six major projects identified by the city to undertake with bond money.
The issuance of $5 million in revenue bonds was approved by voters in April 2008.
    Projected date for completion
The contractor, Bleigh Construction, has until the middle of December to complete the work.
