    What’s
    happening
Half of the Stardust Drive and Clover Road intersection has now been paved.
“Yesterday (Monday) and today they’re laying base rock on the east end between Clover and Head Lane. That’s being done in advance of installing the curb and gutter,” said Kenny White, assistant to the city engineer. “All the entrance approaches are now in on the west side (of Stardust).”
    What’s next
“They’ll be paving in about a week to week-and-a-half if the weather holds,” said White. “They’ll be laying pipe between the houses (south of the new Stardust Drive extension, west of Clover Road).”

    Anticipated cost
Bleigh Construction is the project’s contractor. It was awarded the job after submitting a bid of $979,432. The city budgeted $1.2 million for the work.
Three change orders have been approved by the City Council thus far. In June, $3,800 was added for the removal of trees and creek channel realignment. In August, another $13,480 was OK’d for the relocation of a Ralls County water district pipeline. On Oct. 2, the City Council approved spending an additional $3,294 related to the water line relocation and to pay for undergrading that was needed to stabilize the bedding.
The cost of the project now amounts to just over $1 million.
    Who’s paying
The Stardust extension project was one of six major projects identified by the city to undertake with bond money.
The issuance of $5 million in revenue bonds was approved by voters in April 2008.
    Projected date for completion
The contractor, Bleigh Construction, has until the middle of December to complete the work.
