  • W. Edward Gottman, 101, of Monroe City, Mo., passed away at 2:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at the Monroe City Manor, Monroe City, Mo.
    He was born July 6, 1911, in rural Monroe City, Mo., in Marion County, the son of E.H.C. and Nellie Gloe Morthland Gottman.
    He was a 1929 graduate of Monroe City High School and graduated from William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., in 1933.
    He was a lifelong member of the Monroe City First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon emeritus, taught an adult Sunday school class and served as financial secretary.
    Ed worked for Henderson Produce Co., Monroe City, Mo., as an accountant for many years. He also was a Marion County stockman and grain farmer. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Monroe City Nutrition Center and most of all spending time with his family.
    He married Marguerite Charlotte Brown June 30, 1940, in Warrensburg, Mo. She passed away March 2, 2003.
    He is survived by two daughters, Vicki C. Devore, Fontana, Calif., and Linda E. Kuhlman, Hannibal, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Janet E. Gottman, Monroe City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Lloyd Gottman, Littleton, Colo.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, William C. Gottman; one brother, Dewitt Gottman; and one nephew, Kenneth Gottman.
    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the Monroe City First Baptist Church. The Rev. Milton Baumgardner will officiate. Burial will be at St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City, Mo.
    Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City.
    Pallbearers will be Gregory Hitt, Scott Kuhlman, Robert Pannell, Matthew Neuweg, Alexander Gottman, Maxwell Gottman, David Hurt, Ignacio Sanchez, Dan Adam and Tony Griffin.
    Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Gottman, Raymond F. Gottman and Lloyd Gottman.
    Memorials have been suggested to the Monroe City First Baptist Church building fund or the Monroe City Nutrition Center.
    Garner Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
