  • Eleanor G. Brown, age 86, of Palmyra, Mo., passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at The Glen at Aberdeen Heights in Kirkwood, Mo.
    Eleanor was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Palmyra, Mo., to Alexander Tavner and Martha Moore Griffith.
    She was married to Charles F. Brown Sept. 23, 1945, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 2001.
    Survivors include sons, Charles “Brownie” Brown and wife, Ann, of Palmyra, and Jim Brown and wife, Michele, of Palmyra; daughter, Cindy Brown of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, Chris Germann and husband, Jeff, of Chesterfield; Lindsey Sells and husband, Scott, of Columbia, Mo.; Courtney Garavaglia and husband, Matt, of Maplewood, Mo.; and Tav Brown of St. Louis, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Parker Germann of Chesterfield; Paige and Thatcher Sells of Columbia.
    She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Alex and Jim Griffith; and a sister who died in infancy.
    Eleanor was an honor student and a 1943 graduate of Palmyra High School. She was student leader chosen to represent her school in the Good Citizenship Pilgrimage Contest by the Missouri State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Also, she was awarded the courtesy award by the Palmyra I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 31. During her high school years she was an accomplished pianist for musicians and vocalists in local and state music contests.
    Eleanor and Charles shared a love of music and dancing throughout their lifetime together. Because of her patriotism, civic contributions, and leadership within her community. Eleanor was chosen as grand marshal for the Palmyra Homecoming Parade in 1992.
    Mrs. Brown was a 50-year member of Chapter IE, P.E.O., where she served as president. She was a former member of the Pierian Club and the Mildred L. Briscoe Circle of Kings Daughters. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Palmyra.
    Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Father Morgan Ibe and the Rev. Dawn Victoria Mitchell will officiate. Burial to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo.
    Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.
    Memorial contributions may be made to Palmyra Nutrition Center and/or charity of the donor’s choice.
    Pallbearers will be Tav Brown, Jeff Germann, Scott Sells, Matt Garavaglia, Ken Greger, Judge Robert Clayton, John Morthland and Pat Blue.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Lewis, George Keller, Gene Maddux, George M. Lewis and Bill Johnson.
