  • The Northeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering a class on Saturday, Nov. 3, to teach CPR/AED training for professional rescuers and health care providers.

  • The Northeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross is offering a class on Saturday, Nov. 3, to teach CPR/AED training for professional rescuers and health care providers.
    The seven-hour course will be taught from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Northeast Missouri Chapter House, 3062 Highway 61 North in Hannibal, Mo.
    Tom Dugger of the local chapter said the duty of an EMT, firefighter, athletic trainer or lifeguard to respond to cardiac or breathing emergencies until more advanced medical personnel can take over.
    From assessing needs and making decisions to providing care, this program provides the skills they need through discussion, video and hands-on training based on real-life rescue scenarios. This course covers adults, children and infants.
    Topics include:
    • Primary assessment
    • Ventilations including use of CPR breathing barriers and use of bag-valve-masks (BVMs)
    • Choking (conscious and unconscious)
    • CPR (one- and two-rescuer)
    • Using AED
    • Optional training in use of epinephrine auto-injectors and asthma inhalers available
    Red Cross training courses meet OSHA guidelines, feature hands-on skills practice and include two year certifications, free digital materials and skill refreshers.
