  • It's time for sweet revenge Cardinals fans.
Ten years ago the Giants spoiled our chances and finally we meet them again in the National League Championship Series.
I really though 2002 was going to be our year. We had a ton of talent, we had a great combination of players, we had it all.
But those Giants just had to knock us out and force an all-California World Series against the Angels.
It was a tearful year to be a Cardinal in 2002.
We lost Jack Buck, we lost Darryl Kile, we lost Darrell Porter, we lost Enos Slaughter.
The Cardinals players kept our spirits up by winning, playing hard and making the postseason, but it was all spoiled when the Giants won the pennant instead of us.
    Now is our time.
Now is not only time for revenge, but now is our time for history.
For the first time since 1968, the Cardinals could win back-to-back pennants. And doing that could put St. Louis in line to win their first ever back-to-back World Championships. The Cardinals came close to doing that in 1943 too, that's when St. Louis had their best run and won three consecutive pennants — 1942, 1943, 1944.
The Cardnials can do this, the Cardinals must do this.
You get to the NLCS and you don't want to quit now, you want to plow through. And who better than Mike Matheny to be managing? He was on that 2002 team and would want that revenge too. And he finished with the Giants in 2006. Again, revenge against a former team.
Matheny has proved to be a great leader and knowledgeable strategist, he's going to battle these Giants and give them the toughest series they've had all year long.
This is going to be a great series.
The Cardinals want to go back-to-back and the Giants want to bounce back after their 2011 season following their 2010 World Series Championship season.
It's tough to say if it'll go seven games, I think whoever finds the best way to grab a series lead strategically is going to be able to pull ahead. It certainly won't be a sweep by any means.
Just get ready for long games because whether it's the bats or the pitching arms that come out the strongest, both teams will battle to the final out.
