  • The American Queen will be making an extended stay in Hannibal this week.
According to Gail Bryant, director of the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau, the river boat will arrive in Hannibal on Thursday morning, Oct. 11, and remain in America’s Hometown until Saturday, Oct. 13. The boat will not be in Hannibal on Sunday, Oct. 14, as was originally scheduled. Typically the American Queen remains in Hannibal for four hours.
Its extended stay will be due to repairs at Lock and Dam 25 in Winfield from Tuesday, Oct. 9, through Friday, Oct. 12.
“That work will impact the boat’s ability to get back to St. Louis,” said Bryant.
The boat will arrive between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., with passengers disembarking around 8 a.m., according to Megan Rapp, assistant director/group sales manager for the HCVB. Those travelers will be making their regularly scheduled tours around town aboard charter buses that follow the boat up the river. That group of visitors will remain in Hannibal until Friday morning when they will be bused back to St. Louis.
Friday afternoon, the next group of American Queen guests will arrive on buses around 3:30 p.m. They will make their tourist excursions in Hannibal on Saturday morning before departing aboard the boat around noon.
“The HCVB and Chamber of Commerce have been receiving a number of phone calls from people wanting to see the American Queen and we want them to know it won’t be here on Sunday as had been scheduled,” said Bryant.
