A two-vehicle traffic accident Wednesday afternoon left not only at least one person injured, but over 120 households and businesses in the dark after one of the vehicles sheered off a power pole in central Hannibal.
The mishap involving a Ford Ranger and a passenger car happened shortly before 3 p.m. at Country Club Drive and Lincoln Street. According to a preliminary report, one person was being treated at the scene for a cut to the forehead. It was not immediately known if there were other injuries.
The crash took out both a power pole and a fire hydrant, according to a spokesperson at the Hannibal Board of Public Works. Reportedly, 122 electric customers were without power for over an hour, with service to most of those people being restored by 4:15 p.m.
While repairs were being made, traffic barricades were put up at Country Club and Lincoln Street.
