  • The project
The extension of Stardust Drive in Hannibal from Head Lane to Veterans Road. The road’s surface will be made of concrete.
    What’s
    happening
“They poured several hundred feet of concrete on Monday.” said City Engineer Mark Rees, referring to the area west of Clover Road toward Veterans Road.
Kenny White, assistant to the city engineer, estimated that between 700 and 800 feet of new pavement was poured Monday.
“Today (Tuesday), they’re laying out for tomorrow (pour of more concrete),” said White. “They’re also filling in around the new curbs as needed.”
“They’re still working on drainage on the east side (of Clover Road),” said Rees.
    What’s next
“Eventually they will have to re-do the Clover Road intersection (at Stardust) to change the elevation by a foot to foot-and-a-half,” said Rees.

    Anticipated cost
Bleigh Construction is the project’s contractor. It was awarded the job after submitting a bid of $979,432. The city budgeted $1.2 million for the work.
Three change orders have been approved by the City Council thus far. In June, $3,800 was added for the removal of trees and creek channel realignment. In August, another $13,480 was OK’d for the relocation of a Ralls County water district pipeline. On Oct. 2, the City Council approved spending an additional $3,294 related to the water line relocation and to pay for undergrading that was needed to stabilize the bedding.
The cost of the project now amounts to just over $1 million.
    Who’s paying
The Stardust extension project was one of six major projects identified by the city to undertake with bond money.
The issuance of $5 million in revenue bonds was approved by voters in April 2008.
    Projected date for completion
The contractor, Bleigh Construction, has until the middle of December to complete the work.
