MEXICO, Mo. - Kirksville (3-4, 1-4 North Central Missouri Conference) used a dominating defensive performance to beat Mexico 22-14 and snap a four-game losing streak.
Makenna Cook led the charge defensively with eight tackles and a sack.
Cook, Blake Riley and Scott Schwend scored touchdowns in the first half for the Tigers. Quinn Benson capped the opening drive of the second half for the Tigers with a 27-yard field goal.
Tiger head coach Jeff Jacques said the team did a good job of shutting Mexico down.
"I think it was our best defensive effort of the year, especially in the first half, I thought we controlled the game defensively." he said. "Our front seven really played well. They finally bought in to our bend-but-no-break philosophy on defense."
The Bulldogs (1-6, 0-4) scored on a kickoff return in the first half and scored on a Matt Ridgeway touchdown pass with 48 left in the game.
Putnam County 32, North Shelby 26: UNIONVILLE, Mo. - Jacob Parker had 198 yards rushing and 121 yards passing to lead Putnam County (1-6, 1-2) to its first win of the season.
Washburn Lady Blues Fall Classic: TOPEKA, Kan. - Truman State (14-4) defeated East Central (Okla.) and Harding (Ark.) by 3-1 scores.
Allie Brak led Truman with 15 kills and Megan Sharpe added 12 kills in the opening. Meghan Zimmerman totaled 42 assists and 13 digs.
Brak posted 18 kills and 16 digs in the second match. Sharpe had 15 kills and Emily Briseno had 10 kills. Zimmerman had 51 assists.
