One night after breaking the school record for wins in a season, the Mark Twain softball team added to its total as the Lady Tigers beat Highland 7-4 in the district tournament.
Mark Twain (17-7) scored all seven of its runs in the fourth inning. During that frame, the Lady Tigers sent 12 batters to the plate and collected 6 of the team’s 11 hits for the game.
On the mound, Mackenzie Grossmann picked up the win as she went all seven innings for Mark Twain. Grossmann scattered four hits and allowed four runs while striking out 15 batters. At one point, Grossmann struck out 8 consecutive batters. Highland’s leadoff hitter popped out to lead off the game and Grossmann followed by striking out the rest of Highland’s lineup.
At the plate Grossmann was just as dangerous, finishing the night a perfect 3-for-3 while Alicia was 2-for-3.
