Pirate swimmers excel at Fort Zumwalt
Freshmen Tyler Bush and Lliot Gieseke as well as sophomores Jamey Lemon and Dylan Yarbrough took first place in the 200 Medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay Saturday at the Fort Zumwalt Invitational.
Overall, the Pirates finished the swim meet in eighth place out of 12 teams, but the Pirates were swimming shorthanded as two swimmers were out because of illness and injury.
Aside from their first place finish on the relay team, Gieseke also finished sixth overall in the 50 freestyle while Bush took home fifth in the 100 back stroke and seventh in the 200 IM. Yarbrough was 12th in the 200 freestyle while fellow relay teammate Lemon was 12th in the 500 free.
Also participating was Chase Turner, Jacob Selmon, and Shay Wade. Turner and Selmon both swam to 13th place finished. Turner was in the 100 free while Selmon swam the 100 breast. Wade finished 15th in the 200 free for the Pirates.
Bush and Turner both had set new personnel best time Saturday in the individual medley while Gieseke (50) and Lemon (500) did the same in their freestyle events.
The Hannibal tennis team played in the North Central Missouri Conference tournament over the weekend and finished fourth out of seven teams.
"I felt we had a good day overall," Hannibal coach Jay Johnson said. "We finished fourth overall."
The Lady Pirates No. 1 doubles team of Johna Lasby and Kaitlyn Willing finished second in their doubles bracket while the rest of the doubles teams finished fourth.
In singles, Hannibal's No.1 singles came in sixth while the rest of the singles players all finished fourth.
Pirate soccer wins tourney
The Hannibal soccer team allowed only two goals during the entire Camdenton Tournament and came away with a first place finish. Hannibal finished the tournament 3-0. After beating host Camdenton 3-1 on Friday, the Pirates beat Lebanon and Fatima on Saturday. Hannibal allowed just one goal in the two games combined Saturday to win the championship.
