Elsberry teen hurt in crash

An Elsberry teen-ager who fell asleep at the wheel wound up injured in a traffic crash early Sunday morning in Lincoln County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the mishap happened at midnight on Route E 0.5 of a mile west of Silex.

A 2002 Chrysler 300 was being driven east by 16-year-old Rachelle N. Horne of Elsberry. Reportedly, when Horne dozed off the vehicle ran off the road where it struck an embankment and went airborne before coming to a halt.

Horne, who was wearing a safety device, was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph West Medical Center.
