  • Roy C. Huechteman, 89, formerly of Quincy, Ill., died on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at 11:27 a.m. in Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Mo.
    He was born on Nov. 20, 1922, in Quincy, Ill., a son of Edward and Erma Jahn Huechteman.
    He married Elizabeth “Bette” Schmitt on April 25, 1946. She preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2007.
    Mr. Huechteman was employed as director of purchasing for Brenner Tea, Aldi Inc. of Burlington, Iowa, for 30 years, retiring in 1988.
    He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern campaigns.
    Survivors include two daughters, Lana Ferrel and her husband, Robby, of Hannibal, Mo.; and Vickie Higgins and her husband, Charlie, of Burlington, Iowa; a son, Kevin Huechteman and his wife, Marcia, of Bettendorf, Iowa; three grandchildren, Cimberly Schetter and her husband, Tim, of St. Charles, Mo.; and Ryan Huechteman and Alissa DeVol, both of Bettendorf, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Telken and Jensen and Emma Schetter all of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Donald Huechteman and his wife, Patty, of Quincy; and a sister, Vera Akins of Quincy.
    In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.
    Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
    Visitation will be at the time of service.
    Entombment will be at Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
    Memorials may be made to Great River Honor Flights, in care of Hansen-Spear, 1535 State St., Quincy, IL 62301. Mr. Huechteman and his daughter, Lana, participated in the Honor Flight in October of 2010 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience with fellow veterans.
