Another portion of the city of Hannibal’s fall overlay program was underway Friday morning. Workers with Chester Bross Construction could be found putting down a new section of asphalt on Paris Gravel Road from just west of Veterans Road westward to the city limits.
“It was a ratty little piece of road that we probably inherited with a past annexation,” said City Engineer Mark Rees. “It might be an old piece of state highway.”
An initial coating of asphalt was being applied to smooth out the driving surface and create a better crown on the road, according to Brian Chaplin, city project manager. After that work is complete another 2-inch coat of asphalt was to be applied.
Traffic was being reduced to one lane while the work was going on. Chaplin reports that the work should be completed by 1 p.m. on Saturday.
