Playing a home game on the road because the rain made its field unplayable didn't faze the Monroe City softball team as the Lady Panthers beat Louisiana 10-0 in five innings Tuesday night.
"We were actually the home team today," Monroe City coach Melissa Chinn said. "Our field was rained out, so we were the home team at Louisiana."
Monroe City (10-8, 2-7 CCC) scored once in the bottom of the first and once in the bottom of the fifth while the rest of their runs came in the second inning.
"The girls played really well today," Chinn said. "They definitely came together and they worked really hard. I am really proud of them."
Monroe City batted around and scored 8 runs in the second, three of which came on Carli Spalding's third home run of the season.
"She got all of it," Chinn said. "You could tell the second that she hit that thing that it was gone."
Spalding led the Monroe City as she was 3-for-3 with a three-run home run while also being walked twice and scoring twice. Spalding's homer wasn't the Lady Panther's only extra base hit though. Caitlin Kendrick was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Baylee Sinclair was 1-for-1 with a triple in her only at bat. Sinclair would go on to score the Lady Panthers' 10th and final run of the game.
As a team, Monroe City pounded out 12 hits, half of which came from just three batters. Olivia Creager, Tegan Garner, and Julie Hays finished the game 2-for-3. Garner, Creager and Hays all scored once for the Lady Panthers. Creager and Garner each plated two runs while Hays knocked in one.
Garner earned her 10th win of the season as she allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out two in her five innings of work.
