  • Danielle Cassidy and Jaida Gray combined to picth a two-hit shutout over Clopton Tuesday night as the Thunderbirds won 9-0.
Cassidy pitched the first five innings and allowed both hits. Cassidy did not walk anyone and struck out three to improve to 9-4 on the mound this year. Gray then took over in relief for the final two innings and just dominated the Clopton hitters. Gray pitched two perfect innings as she stuck out five of the six batters she faced. The one batter Gray failed to strikeout, hit a weak pop that was easily caught by the North Callaway third baseman.
At the plate, Gray led North Callaway (14-5, 7-1 EMO) as she finished 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Janie Coffman also recorded a multi-hit game as she finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Brynn McGrath was just 1-for-3 but had knocked in three runs and scored once.
The bulk of North Callaway’s scoring came in the fifth when the Thunderbirds scored six times. Two of those runs came on a bases loaded single by McGrath.
Shaylen Martin’s second inning single and Kaitlin Reed’s fourth inning single had Clopton’s only hits of the day. Reed also reached on an error in the second.
