  • The Hannibal boys' and girls' cross country teams spent Saturday afternoon at the Hancock Invitational. The Pirate boys finished 12th out of 20 teams while the Lady Pirates came in 15th.

  • The Hannibal boys' and girls' cross country teams spent Saturday afternoon at the Hancock Invitational. The Pirate boys finished 12th out of 20 teams while the Lady Pirates came in 15th.
    "Our kids ran at the tough Hancock Invitational," Hannibal cross country coach Charlie Newland said via email. "I think the competition was an eye opener for our kids and that is a good thing. Our kids are competitive and I think they are going to rise up to the occasion. Luckily, for us we still have a month's worth of good training to get us where we need to be."
    The Pirates top finisher was Paul Golian. Golian placed 25th overall and turned in a time of 18:07. Michael Vaia (18:49) came in 42 seconds behind Golian to take 49th overall. Sean Jones (19:26) and Tyler Janes (19:50 took home 71st and 83rd overall while Nigel McIntosh and Alex Brown finished with identical times of 19:58. McIntosh was awarded 89th place and Brown finished 90th. The final runner for the Pirates was Daniel DeLaporte. DeLaporte came in 101st place with a time of 20:17.
    The Lady Pirates' top finisher was Rachel Davis. Davis took 34th with a time of 21:56. Abbey Jeffries (22:31) was 44th while Bailey Welch (23:17) was 65th. Kathleen Thorpe (26:21) and Morgan Hall (26:39) finished together, placing 118 and 119th. Olivia Mack was the final runner for Hannibal as she took 126th overall with a time of 28:17.
    In boys' JV action, the Pirates finished 12th out of 20 teams. Jacob Roisum came in 41st with a time of 20:29 to lead the JV cross country runners. Kyle Allen and Isaac Lichty finished one second apart at 21:11 and 21:12, but took 68th and 70th places. Brad Curl was 101 with a time of 21:58 while Taylor Frantz was 204th as he finished with a time of 25:08. The final JV runner for the Pirates was Joe Meidl. Meidl finished 206th with a time of 25:12.
    Hannibal will be out running again this Friday as the Pirates and Lady Pirates travel to Warrenton for the Warrenton Invitational.
    "This meet will be a good barometer of where we stack up against most of our district competition," Newland said.
