From the first play of the game, Jerry McBride and the Hannibal freshman-sophomore football team were in control as the Pirates beat Kirksville 41-6 Monday on the road.
On the opening play of the game, Jerry McBride connected with receiver Dalton Overstreet 66-yard touchdown pass. McBride totaled 106 yards rushing on just 12 carries. He scored twice on the ground.
McBride wasn't Hannibal's only threat on the ground though. Colton Gottman and Damon Kyle both scored rushing touchdowns for the Pirates. Overstreet pulled down another touchdown reception near the end of the first half when he caught an Austin Lewton pass that went for 28 yards.
Marcus Allen made two of three extra point attempts while Devon Thomas was successful on one of his two extra-point attempts. Thomas also caught a two-point conversion pass from Lewton.
Defensively the Pirates did not allow any points. Kirksville's lone score came on an interception that was returned for a touchdown. McBride had a team-high 11 tackles while Keyana Strickland finished with seven.
Hannibal returns home next Monday as the Pirates will face off against Fulton.
