The Hannibal softball traveled to Marshall Monday night for a double header and when it was all said and done, the Lady Pirates had swept Owls 10-4 and 17-7.
Hannibal coach Brock Sousa said Diamond Mickels picked up the win in the opener as she allowed four runs (two of which were earned) in seven innings of work. Mickels scattered seven hits and four walks while striking out a pair.
"She did alright," Sousa said. "It wasn't her best showing, but she did her job and she did alright tonight."
The Lady Pirate bats went to work early, scoring three times in the second and adding five more runs in the third. Hannibal scored its final two runs in the seventh inning to close out the win.
Kara Lockwood led the Lady Pirates in the first game with a 3-for-4 performance. Lockwood knocked in two and scored twice. Gabby Ewert and Ashley Wilson both had a pair of hits. Ewert scored twice and plated one run while Wilson also scored twice, plated a run and recorded a triple. Mickels contributed to her own cause by going 1-2 at the plate with a two-run double.
"We hit the ball a lot tonight and we put it into play," Sousa said.
In the nightcap, the Lady Pirates scored in every inning. Hannibal crossed the plate three times in the first and three more in the second. The Lady Pirates added five in the third and seven more in the fourth. Hannibal added two runs in the fifth and another pair in the six.
Sammi Riley was a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game with three runs scored and four stolen bases. Riley also walked twice. Gabby York was 3-for-5 and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. York knocked in three runs and scored five times.
Abby Conn picked up the win as she pitched five innings, giving up three runs (only one earned). Conn scattered four hits and five walks while striking out two.
