  • Mankowski letter: Don’t take quote out of context

  • RE: the recent letter to the editor concerning a Romney statement that he would not be listening to the Obama speech (and how awful that was). Taken as simply that, it was misleading (which was the purpose).

I saw that actual interview on TV. Romney was asked if he was going to watch Obama’s speech. His answer was, he will not be watching, but he does have a copy of Obama’s speech and will be reading that.
When I heard his response I thought, gosh I wish I had a copy then I would not have to waste hours watching TV to get to maybe a one hour speech.
Meanwhile having since found a copy, when you do read the speech, one can only see that another four years are necessary to do what was promised 3 ½ years ago. And how the magnatitude of the problem was under estimated.
We should be more concerned with this as a platform concept then we are with a quote purposefully taken out of context. That quote was meant to deceive, and for some, apparently it succeeded.
