  • Lena Florence Copenhaver Shepherd, 101, died at 10:23 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
    Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Arch United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Scott, officiating.  Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.
    Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Smith Funeral Home & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Shepherd was born Nov. 14, 1910, in Shelby County, Mo., to Marcus Elmer and Mary Kate O’Neal Copenhaver.
    She married Claude Curtis Shepherd, June 15, 1935, in Troy, Mo., and he preceded her in death, March 4, 1982.
    Survivors include two sons, Fred Charles (Kay) Shepherd, of Festus, Mo., and Clifford Dale (Sally) Shepherd, of Ballwin, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Kenny) Hudelson, of New London, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, Aimee Profit, Chad (Bonnie) Shepherd, Marcus (Lisa) Shepherd, John (Shannon) Shepherd, Matthew (Christy) Shepherd, Luke Shepherd, Paul (Lacey) Shepherd, Leanne (Mike) Alagna, Michael (Abby) Shepherd, Craig (Kalee Whittaker) Shepherd, Angela (Chris) Guccione, Tyson (Rose) Wilburn, Shane Hudelson, Brenton Hudelson and Justin (Suzette) Hudelson; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving is one sister, Hirmaline Whitney, of Hannibal; and one brother, Eugene (Doris) Copenhaver, of Hunnewell; and several nieces and nephews.
    Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by three sisters, Estell Fry, Fern Tracy and Dorothy Feaster and two brothers, Irvin (Buck) Copenhaver and Kenneth Copenhaver.
    She was the oldest member of Arch United Methodist Church and was a member of the Harmony Sunday School Class. Lena retired as a L.P.N. in the OB Department at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. She was a graduate of Clarence High School, class of 1929. Lena enjoyed dancing at the seniors’ dances at the armory and danced at her 100th birthday celebration.
    Memorials may be made to Arch United Methodist Church.
    Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
