What’s

happening

“They’re making progress fast,” said City Engineer Mark Rees. “The drainage is done west of Clover Road. “They have been hauling in fill. The earth work is progressing rather quickly.”

What’s next

“They’ll be putting in the aggerate base as soon as the (earth) base has stabilized. The (installation of) curb and gutter will be very close behind that,” said Rees.

Anticipated cost

Bleigh Construction is the project’s contractor. It was awarded the job after submitting a bid of $979,432. The city budgeted $1.2 million for the work.

Two change orders have been approved by the City Council thus far. In June, $3,800 was added for the removal of trees and creek channel realignment. In August, another $13,480 was OK’d for the relocation of a Ralls County water district pipeline. The cost of the project now amounts to $996,712.

Who’s paying

The Stardust extension project was one of six major projects identified by the city to undertake with bond money.

The issuance of $5 million in revenue bonds was approved by voters in April 2008.

Projected date for completion

The contractor, Bleigh Construction, has until the middle of December to complete the work.
