  • Elaina Meyers helped to get the Lady Pirates going in a 14-6 victory over the Monroe City Lady Panthers.
Meyers hit two homers, a two-run and a one-run, for the girls. She also walked and scored three times.
Meyers was not the only Lady Pirate to play well on the day. Sammi Reilly had an RBI and two stolen bases. Ashley Wilson had a single, a double and a run. Gabby York had a single, a double, a stolen base and a run, Kara Lockwood had two singles and a double while scoring four runs, Abby Conn had four hits, two RBIs and a stolen base, Gabby Ewert had a hit with two RBIS, a stolen base and two runs scored, Meghan Grimes had two RBIs and a stolen base and Rachel Rawlings had a hit, a sacrifice and two RBIs.
Hannibal Head Coach Brock Sousa said his team has been playing well.
“We have been hitting extremely well, they are carrying over from game to game,” Sousa said. “We were able to put the ball into play a lot and we put a lot of pressure on Monroe’s defense.”
The coach added, “I was proud of all my girls really, coming back from behind at the beginning of the game and to finish the game like we did.”
Sousa said the defense had room to improve but the team tightened up and made plays to prevent Monroe City from closing the gap.
Hannibal had six errors on the night.
The Lady Pirates will move on to face Mark Twain at home on Thursday.
Sousa said he expects this game to lend momentum to the next one.
