Marvin Colbert, 91, of Curryville, Mo., passed away at Lynn’s Heritage House in Louisiana on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with John Veach officiating. Burial will be at the Curryville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today, Aug. 31, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home.
Mr. Colbert was born on Sept. 10, 1920, in Ashley, Mo., the son of William Yeaman and Nellie Elizabeth Lindsay Colbert.
He married Anna Gene Clark on March 16, 1940, in Columbia, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2008.
Surviving family includes two sons, Billy Gene Colbert and wife, Linda, of Curryville and Ronnie Wayne Colbert and wife, Sharon, of Hannibal; grandchildren, Kelly M. Grote and husband, Doug, of Bowling Green, Kara G. Brewer and husband, Jason, of Hannibal, Mo., Megan E. Colbert of Cotter, Ark., Ronda K. Peasel and husband, Price, of Mesa, Ariz., Jason C. Colbert and wife, Tanya, of St. Louis; great-grandchildren, Anna Madison and Brenan Quinn Grote, Carter Allen, Lily Gene and Carson Henry Brewer, Braden and Austin Peasel and Kane Colbert; brother, Floyd A. Colbert of O’Fallon, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jewel Arendall. .
Marvin owned a small farm outside of Curryville from 1950 to 1972 and also owned and operated Marvin Colbert Trucking. He also worked for 10 years at Hercules in Louisiana.
After this time he and Anna sold the farm and moved into Curryville. He then bought his own over-the-road truck and drove for Oliver Trucking, TDC and Neal Beatty Logging for several years before retiring. After retirement Marvin worked for the City of Curryville, read water meters and maintained the lagoon system. He enjoyed mowing and took care of the Curryville City Park, Curryville, and Mt. Air Cemeteries and many neighbors.
He had owned his own plane and was a pilot. He enjoyed flying radio controlled planes with his sons and going to air shows. Marvin was a Christian by faith and in his youth was a member of the Louisville Christian Church.
Pallbearers will be Jason Colbert, Jason Brewer, Larry Catlett, Doug Colbert, Ellis Feith and Bill Dickinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Lewis, Gene Lewis, Doug Grote, Price Peasel, Reid Wilson and Brad Dickinson.
Memorials may be made to the Pike County Home Health and Hospice, Curryville, or Mt. Air Cemeteries or the Hannibal Nutritional Center.
