  • 'Almost President' takes to the stage

  • “Almost President,” a tale surrounding the 1912 presidential aspirations of Northeast Missouri Congressman Champ Clark, will be performed at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in the third-floor courtroom of the Pike County Courthouse in Bowling Green.

  • "Almost President," a tale surrounding the 1912 presidential aspirations of Northeast Missouri Congressman Champ Clark, will be performed at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in the third-floor courtroom of the Pike County Courthouse in Bowling Green.
    The issues are the economy, taxes and America's place in a changing world.
    Clark is the presumptive Democrat nominee going into the convention at Baltimore. However, a proverbial stab in the back from an unexpected source will keep him from seeking the highest office in the land.
    The one-hour play by Brent Engel will be performed free at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, during the Champ Clark Heritage Festival.
    The election of 1912 was significant in many ways, and has parallels with today's campaign for the highest office in the land.
