American Legion Post No. 55 is having a series of rifle matches, beginning with an open match at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Salt River Gun Club on U.S. 61 south of Hannibal. Shooting will be from a bench at targets set at 50 yards.
Additional matches will be on Sept. 22, Oct. 20 and Nov. 17 at the same time and location.

Members of American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League or any affiliates may shoot. The Aug. 4 match is an open match and the others will be a four-person team shoot for each post. The winning team will receive a perpetual trophy to take to their post and return at the next match.
The cost is $10 per shoot, per match. Shooters will need at least 30 rounds of ammunition per event (10 rounds for the match and 20 rounds for practice). They must provide their own ammunition.
They may use their own U.S. military rifle or one of the American Legion’s AR15s.
If these matches are successful, next year a trap shoot and pistol match will be added.
