  • The Champ Clark bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana will be one lane on Thursday, Dec. 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. while MoDOT performs an inspection of the bridge.
The bridge was damaged and temporarily closed on Dec. 14. It was inspected and immediate temporary repairs were made, allowing MoDOT to safely reopen the bridge to legal loads.
“This is an inspection to help us determine the extent of the permanent repairs needed,” said MoDOT Maintenance Superintended Butch Mundle. “Primarily, repairs will be to the structural steel on the truss and rail.”
MoDOT expects the permanent repairs to be completed within the next few months.
The 2,238-foot bridge, which was built in 1928, is a narrow two-lane bridge on a 20-foot deck. It is named after James Beauchamp Clark, a former speaker of the House from Bowling Green. Clark served as speaker from 1911 to 1919.
