The Pirates wrestling team has become rather predictable this season.

When taking on teams with full lineups, the Pirates will lose the dual meet. However, the loses Hannibal picks up in duals usually just comes from the open slot. If a Pirate wrestles, the odds are good that he is going to win.

Thursday evening Hannibal made its way to Kirksville to take on the Tigers. Kirksville won the dual 45-27, but Hannibal won the action on the mat 5-2.

The Tigers scored 36 of its 45 points at the dual via the forfeit after Hannibal failed to dress wrestlers in six different weight classes. Take away the open points, and Hannibal has a 27-9 lead. But that’s not the way the scoring works so Hannibal picks up a dual loss.

Bryant Ruby (130 pounds) picked up a win, beating Zach Westren 7-2. Kyle Wessel (135 pounds) also won by decision, beating Bea Blankinship 15-2.
Jacob Janes was a winner on the night. Nearly five minutes into his match with Coltin Belitz, the Pirates 140-pounder picked up a pin.

Blake Jarman didn’t pin Aric Laudwig, but he did pick up a 16-0 technical fall win. The Hannibal 145-pounders win was the 100th of his career.

Phillip Perry (160 pounds) also to pick up a win. He pinned Dy Kriegshauser 2:24 into the match. Jake Borgemeyer was the final Pirate to win. He beat Jacob Brawner in the 215-pound match 8-1.
Brady Ruby (152 pounds) and Jordan Strickland (285 pounds) lost their matches.

In JV action, Zach Shipley was 0-2, Reggie Hilton was 0-2, and Ethan Whitley was 1-1.
Hannibal will be back to the mats on Monday. For the final time this season, the Pirates will wrestle at Korf Gynasium. Action begins at 5 p.m.
