Clopton picked up its first shutout of the season Wednesday, and the Hawks needed it. David Kunnzweiler knocked an RBI double in the third inning to put the Hawks up 1-0. Neither team would score again, and Clopton improved to 2-5 on the season.
“Defensively, we played really well,” Clopton head coach Matt Cannon said.
Palmyra places third at Centralia
Eight schools headed to Centralia for the Centralia Golf Tournament on Wednesday. Salisbury took home the tournament title with a team score of 328. In second was Louisiana with a 333. Palmyra (335) came in third, followed by Paris (353), South Shelby (363), Centralia (380), Monroe City (401) and Fulton’s JV squad (419).
Palmyra was led by matching 83s from Ryan DeHaan and Jon Bradney. Kyle Browning shot an 84 and Mackenize Browning carded an 85. Taylor Schubert’s 89 was scratched.
“I thought the guys played really well,” Palmyra head coach Joe Brandenberg said. “All of our scores were consistent throughout the whole lineup. Just a few strokes here and there and we would have been right up there with them.”
The Hannibal Pirates picked up a 7-2 road win on Wednesday against Missouri Military Academy to improve to 7-2. Bhavesh Katbamna lost 3-10. Brandt Parker won 10-7. Kyle Bowman won 10-1. Daniel Ouellette won 10-3. Eli Jackson won 10-2. Edward Gregg won 10-1. In doubles play, Katbamna and Bowman lost 1-10. Ouellette and Jackson won 10-2. Parker and Gregg won 10-2.
In JV action, Andrew Merrell and James Zeiger won 10-2. Chris Bueler and Jake Grimes won 10-3. Josh Lippincott and Matt Flanigan won 10-7. Jacob Gentry and Paul Muehring won 10-5. Henry Sweets and Cole Griffin won 10-0.
