Charles (Chuck) Giger and Deirdre (DK) Hirner of Springfield, Ill., were married on St. Kitts on March 5, 2009, with Pastor Benjamin Browne officiating.
Charles (Chuck) Giger and Deirdre (DK) Hirner of Springfield, Ill., were married on St. Kitts on March 5, 2009, with Pastor Benjamin Browne officiating. The sunset ceremony was held at the Calypso Bay clubhouse on a cliff at the edge of the Caribbean. Matrons of honor were Ila Irwin of Columbia, Mo., and Fran Pope of St. Kitts. Groomsmen were Karl Kruse of Columbia, Mo., and Dr. Eric Pope of St. Kitts.
DK is the daughter of Bill and Deloris Bauer of Hannibal and the late Richard Hirner. Her uncles and aunts are Paul and Shirley Bomar, Carolyn and the late Wayne Tatman all of Hannibal. Chuck is the son of Isabel Giger of Springfield, Ill., and the late Bill Giger of Pittsfield, Ill. Chuck has a daughter, Renee (Pete) Cooper, of Arlington, Va., and brothers Phil of Springfield, Ill., and Sam and family of Pottsboro, Texas.
DK is a graduate of the University of Missouri where she earned a bachelor and master of science, a PhD from Texas Tech and most recently St. Louis University School of Law (JD). She is executive director of the Illinois Environmental Regulatory Group in Springfield. Chuck is a graduate of Western Illinois University (BB), California Coast University (MS), and Saybrook Graduate School (PhD). He is a retired Navy Captain and currently employed as a clinical ethicist at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
The couple honeymooned in St. Kitts and will reside in Springfield.
