James Russell Abbey, 58, of Hannibal, died at 2:22 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Wesley Foster will officiate. Burial will follow at the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2013, from 10 a.m. until services at the Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal.
Mr. Abbey was born on March 23, 1955, in Huntington, MO, the son of Owen and Luvina Scott Abbey.
His parents; two brothers, Oliver Griggsby and Dennis Griggsby; four sisters, Margaret Ann Dade, Gloria Thomas, Elizabeth Anderson and Becky Snow, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his long time companion, Brenda Majors; eight sisters, Betty (Harold) Thomas of Hannibal, Laura Kitchen of Hannibal, Mary (Ronald) Shephard of Minneapolis, MN, Emma Fuqua of Kansas City, MO, Arletha Williams of Hannibal, Paula McGruder of Hannibal, Darla McGruder of Hannibal and Yvonne Dorsey of Kansas City, MO; three brothers, Walter Abbey of Hannibal, Henry Blackwell of Quincy, IL and Chester Abbey of Columbia, MO; three sons, Christian (Shelby) Rhoades of Hannibal, James Russell Abbey Jr. of Hannibal, and Oliver James Russell (Tiffany) Hutt of Qunicy, IL; two stepchildren, Anthony Majors and Chad Majors; four daughters, Yneah (Chris) Riffle, Consuela Hutt, Candice Abbey and Marissa Abbey all of Hannibal and 12 grandchildren.
James was a Boy Scout, and was a coach and umpire for the Parks and Recreation department of Hannibal. He also served as a US Marine and was a member of the Marine reserves.
Memorials maybe given to the YMCA Youth Programs or the Silver and Gold Camp Marion County Services.
