Dean and Marilyn Hammock met each other during their high school days at Hannibal High School.
Their courtship began when Dean gave Marilyn a ride home after work from the A&W restaurant.
As they say, the rest is really history. They were married June 28, 1959 at the Antioch Baptist Church in rural Hannibal.
Dean is the son of the late Walter and Bessie Hammock. Marilyn Sims Hammock is the daughter of the late Ferren and Helen Sims.
Dean is retired from Burlington Northern Railroad where he worked for 40 years. Marilyn had several jobs until her children were born and then she became a homemaker.
Marilyn is known for her creative talents and rustic scene artwork which many local people still have in their homes.
They are the parents of three children, son, Terry Hammock and Cindy, Hannibal; daughter, Sheila Gosney and Bret, Monroe City; and daughter Shelly Hubel and Peter of Southlake, Texas.
Grandchildren are: Nathan Hammock, Sarah Hammock, Jacob Hammock, Terry Pettitt (wife Stephanie), Tyler Gosney, Taylor Gosney, Lindsey Hubel and Noah Hubel.
The couple’s first great-grandchild is due to be born a week after their anniversary, creating yet another milestone in the story of their lives.
Dean and Marilyn Hammock taught their children much in the years they have been married; God being the focus of their lives and the name of Christ being held in high honor in their home. Theirs has been a marriage of beauty where the blessings of God were seen in both the good times and the bad. It all began over 50 years ago with a second glance at the A&W restaurant and it continues today. Come to think of it, Dean still enjoys his root beer floats and Marilyn is still bringing them to him.
The family will celebrate the anniversary with a private dinner. The Hammock children request a card shower for their parents.
