Malcolm and Eva Gentry celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, hosted by their children, with a cruise and luncheon on the Mark Twain Riverboat and a barbecue and fireworks during the evening at their son’s house on the family farm.
Malcolm Henry Gentry and Eva Davis were married July 17, 1949 in Bowling Green, Mo., by the Reverend G. Owens Baxter. Eva is the daughter of the late Capt. Earl and Josephine Endres Davis. She graduated from the Missouri Baptist Hospital Nursing School in St. Louis, becoming an RN. Malcolm is the son of the late Malcolm Stephen and Josephine Turner Gentry and attended the Missouri University of Columbia School of Agriculture, then joined his father in the farming business, west of Hannibal.
Eva Davis moved frequently during her childhood due to her father’s employment with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. They located to Hannibal the week before her senior year in high school where she met Malcolm. He was seated behind her in English class. Due to Malcolm’s dedication to the family farm, they only dated one night a week during their entire last year of high school and monthly during the years Eva attended nursing school in St. Louis. This dedication continues as he still manages the 1818 Century Farm with his sons.
Malcolm and Eva have enjoyed numerous oversea trips, including visiting farms in other countries. Malcolm enjoys farming and Eva’s hobbies include genealogy and history. They attend First Christian Church where Malcolm is a life long member.
The couple’s children are John Gentry (Suzanne), Hannibal; Deborah Loman (Anthony), Kirkwood; Jerry Gentry, Hannibal; Joel (deceased); Jeffrey Gentry (Teresa), Hannibal; and Susan Ledbetter (Timothy), Hannibal.
