Hannibal, MO —

A vehicle was left to air out Sunday, May 11, after gasoline from a pump sprayed inside an open window.
The Hannibal Fire Department put oil dry on the gasoline that spilled on the ground.
The HFD provided the following report: A fire truck was taken to Pick-A-Dilly at 2610 St. Mary’s Ave. at 8:14 p.m. Sunday, after the fire department received a report that there was a large gasoline spill. When firefighters arrive, the police were already there.
Gasoline had spilled on the ground and had run to the edge of the roadway and pooled there. Oil dry was used before it was removed.
It was learned that the driver of the vehicle had begun pumping gas and had used the open catch. After approximately one gallon of gas had been pumped, the hose began to spray fuel from several holes.
The driver, Gretta Hagar of Hannibal, took her infant son out of the vehicle.
Gasoline had been spraying into the vehicle through an open window, so it was not operable. It was pushed to a parking space away from the pumps, and the window was left down to allow the fumes to dissipate.
The police reported problem to store employees.
